Key Texts: Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 1:22–23; Colossians 1:18
Objective
To understand what the church is before studying what the church does.
Teaching Outline
- Christ the Builder and Owner of the Church
- “I will build My church” – ownership belongs to Christ.
- The church is not a human invention or denomination.
- The Church as the Body of Christ
- Christ is the Head; we are members of His body.
- We are organically connected to Christ and to one another.
- The Church as the Called-Out Assembly (Ekklesia)
- Called out of darkness into His marvelous light.
- Called out of the world’s system into God’s kingdom.
- Identity First, Activity Second
- Ministry flows from identity.
- A distorted view of church identity leads to distorted practice.
